“Everyone knows my name.”

Quote of the week explanation

We went out tracting this week for some good-old-fashioned finding, and there was one man, in particular, who was not entirely pleased to see us. We had a very brief conversation with him which mostly involved him trying to think of a creative way of telling us to leave him in peace, and as we were leaving we asked what his name was (in an effort to lighten the situation a bit). Obviously perturbed at this... Prying question, he gave us a classic “I’m better than you” look, and simply said “everyone knows my name.”

Howdy Ho, everybody.

This bad boy is going to be a bit of a shorter one today, because we have quite a bit to do, and, as always, not enough time to do them.

First off... Transfers.

Transfer calls were Saturday night, but we received a call from President Durham on Tuesday. When we saw he was calling, at first we were very confused, because usually the one call that he makes on Tuesday is to inform the new assistant that he needs to pack. That was not the purpose of this call to us, however. He was simply calling to inform us of our fate at transfers. He threw us for a bit of a curveball on this one, I will say. Elder Carter will be leaving. He'll actually be serving in my last area, Hayward. He'll be in a trio with him, another Elder who has been serving in Hayward since I left, and a new trainee. What that means is that I will be staying in Oakland. There will also be a new missionary coming here. Tuesday is transfer day, and we will meet our new companions this Wednesday, which means on Tuesday and for most of Wednesday I'll be in a companionship with one of the Spanish missionaries who is training. It should be interesting.

Other than that, for the teaching side of things, it was a bit of a slower week. Iris is out of town and We were on exchanges on the day we taught Anthony, so I wasn't in the area. We met with Joan though, and she committed to obey the Word of Wisdom, so that's a huge step forward.

I'll brush on our exchange really quickly as well. It was a good day. We did service helping a guy move (he was a non-member, and we got a teaching appointment for my area next Sunday out of it). We taught a guy, it went pretty well. And we visited a less-active member who gave us some bone-marrow stew. It was pretty good.

Anyway, much to do today, I'm afraid, so this installment in the “letters from Ben” saga will have to be left at that.

Bye

P.S. Sand

P.P.S. It pleased me to hear that Utah was able to recover from the tough loss last week.

P.P.P.S. Sad as it may sound, we might pass Joan off to the Berkley YSA sisters this week, since their church time would work better with her schedule and she is, technically, a YSA...
