"We could just... steal it"
Quote of the week explanation
Yesterday we were holding our daily planning session, and there was a short period of time between church and dinner which we were trying to fill. My companion and I often joke around with each other, so he suggested, sarcastically, that we go get ice cream during that time. I responded to this remark by saying that it was unlawful to spend money on the Sabbath day (I suppose I let my inner pharisee out a bit there). Upon my comment, my companion looked at me, narrowed his eyes and said: "We could just... steal it." We didn't end up doing that particular activity, in case anyone was worried.
Good mornin’
Another week has passed by. We had a lot of appointments fall through this week, unfortunately. I therefore may not have a lot to say today, as much of our week was filled with finding and other activities that I'm sure you wouldn't mind not reading about.
We did find one person. We taught him Monday afternoon, since it was only a half P-day. He his very interested in learning more about the restoration, so we've been trying to set up an appointment at the visitors center with him, because they have a ton of really good resources there to teach about Joseph Smith and the restoration and such. The man's name is Samuel, and he is from Ghana. He is super cool, but the problem is he has to work a ton (he's a security guard) and often gets called in for emergency shifts. So we've still only been able to have one meeting with him. We'll see what happens this week, though.
Moving onto other people, Olivia, the person who was going to get baptized my first week, has her date set for Saturday. Now that the hot water at the church is back on we can finally get rolling with that. She seems to be pretty excited for it, and so are we. I may have mentioned this earlier, but missionaries have been working with her for almost four years, so we are only the last of a long line. This is the culmination of all of that work, and I am honored to be a part of it.
We are hoping to put another person on date this week. We have taught her several times since I've been here, and she is super prepared. She, too has a very busy schedule, but she absorbs the message and is very receptive. She says that she believes everything we tell her, so we are going to invite her to be baptized this week, hopefully. (Barring any unforeseen developments).
Those are the major developments. We have a few more people who we're trying to work with, but those are the ones that are progressing the most. One guy we are teaching is starting to get there, but we still have a lot of work to do with him.
The end
P.S. Throwback to that one part of the bible were James and John want to call down fire from the heavens to burn the people who didn't prepare the way for Jesus to enter the city.
P.P.S. And that one part of the Book of Mormon where Helaman's servant flashes a gang sign at Kishkumen, so Kishkumen tells the servant all of his evil plotting, at which point the servant tells Kishkumen that they can go kill the chief judge right now and then stabs Kishkumen in the heart so that he falls dead without a groan.
P.P.P.S. And that part of the Pearl of Great Price where Abraham hies to Kolob.
