"You drink wine!!"
Quote of the week explanation
This one may be a bit long, so bear with me here... This Wednesday we went to contact an individual who has been on our radar for a while, but we had never had a successful contact attempt with him because the apartment where he lived was locked, and we didn't have his phone number to set up an appointment. But, we found ourselves in the area, so we thought... Why not? We went over to his apartment building and, like it always has been, it was locked. We went over to the call box by the entrance, and dialed his apartment number. There had never been any sort of answer from his end. Well, we pressed the button for his apartment number, and... We hear the door buzzing, meaning that he is unlocking it for us. A moment later, it stopped buzzing, and we hear a voice over the intercom saying "Who is it?" We say that we is but lowly servants of the Most High God (But, of course, in more... normal speak). The door resumed it's buzzing in response. A bit surprised, since we met this guy only once, at the beginning of last transfer (and that is a story in and of itself, let me tell you...) We go up to his floor, and the second he hears the elevator door open he lurches out of his apartment and yells "I'm here!" We were a little caught off guard by this, especially because he was wearing nothing but tiny jean-shorts that are intended for women. This is a man in his med-seventies here. Determined to press on, no matter how strange he may appear from the outside, we accepted his warm invitation into his room. He quickly cleared off his couch and invited us to sit down. He told us that we must "try some wine from his country" (He's from Portugal, you see). When we explained to him that we don't drink wine, he responded by saying: "You drink wine! I went to one of your meetings and you drink wine!" He then proceeded to throw out all these names of people who are "mormons" who go to the ward where they drink wine. He finally listened to us, and dropped the wine issue. And what did he do next but bring out tea. Doh! We then taught m very briefly about the word of wisdom. I have no idea why he even let us in in the first place, because he wasn't interested in the church at all.
Hello there
Don't have too much time this morning, and the week wasn't the most eventful, because people were traveling and sick, so we weren't able to have too many appointments.
We did meet with Anthony, though.
We taught him about the restoration, and it was a pretty good lesson. We brought a member along, and it was pretty good to have someone there who was more relatable than two young missionaries. Our lesson went a little bit long, but it was still good. We had a good conversation with him, and we left feeling like we had helped him progress in his spiritual growth. He has some very specific concerns, as I may have mentioned before, but once we are able to overcome those... We should be in very good shape.
The rest of the week was a bit slower. We didn't really find anyone that is all too interested, and like I mentioned beforehand, it was a bit difficult to set up appointments. But we are hopeful for the future.
Anyway, have a good one.
See you.
Ben
P.S. I hear Utah won again. Good job, pals.
P.P.S. There was a kid who answered the door this week who yelled: "I have serious issues!" and then ran away.
P.P.P.S. "Excuse me brethren, but may I say something about the MIA?"
