"I'm just like the Pilgrims and the Indians..."
Quote of the week explanation
If you thought that leaving Oakland would mean leaving the crazy
people behind, you'd be wrong. That was proved almost immediately. We were
walking down the street one evening this week, trying to get ourselves acquainted
with the area, and we talked to one woman who was sitting on a corner, eating
what appeared to be 7-layer dip off of a credit card (That was interesting in
and of itself; she was using the card to scoop it up out of a tub, and then
scraped it off of the card with her teeth. Rinse and repeat (Without the
rinse...)). Anyhoo, we talked to her for a moment, but the only coherent words
we could make out from her stream were all about pilgrims and Indians...
Hi
This one's going to have to be a little shorter.
We arrived in the new area this Tuesday, and have spent most of
the week getting ourselves acquainted. Not too much is happening right now, it
seems to be largely in reset mode. We've met some pretty open people during our
first week or so here, so we'll see if it turns into anything in the long run.
My new companion is named Elder June, he hails from Wisconsin and
is still pretty green in the field, this being his second transfer.
It's pretty interesting, because I have already been in this area
several times to visit Chinese members and such (In fact, we plan on stopping
by a less active Chinese member later today), so there is one neighborhood in
particular for which I am excited, because it might have a decent Asian
population. They also have a 99 Ranch market in our area, and if any place in
the world is guaranteed to have lots of Chinese people (other than... You
know... China) it's that store. So, who knows. I may get to use my language
skills a bit after all.
Anyway, that's about it for this week. Hopefully next time I'll
have a bit more time to give a more detailed report.

P.S. I was thinking of what to put in this first postscript
message, and the first word that came to mind was "political
cartoon". So, there you go.
P.P.S. I'm sorry to all of you who are avid followers of the political
cartoon and were disappointed that I didn't actually include one.
P.P.P.S. Jolly good
