“This mission turns us all into thugs”

Quote of the week explanation

We were with some other missionaries this week and we were talking about how when you see a missionary from our mission verses when you see a missionary from our neighbor, the San Jose mission (who come up here from time to time for one reason or another) you can immediately tell the difference. We talked for a while on what made the difference, and one Elder proposed that the presence of Oakland (and to some extent a few other parts of the mission) left a stain on us and therefore we are just a group of thugs in comparison to our neighboring missions. It's a... how you say... interesting theory, bit in some ways I guess it's not entirely erroneous.

Greetings

I write to you from the humble position of evangelist.

We have kept right on, puttering along as usual.

We had a pretty good week, actually.

I suppose I will begin, as it were, at the end.

Elder June and I gave talks yesterday in sacrament meeting. I gave a similar talk to when I spoke in Oakland, but fortunately they gave me a few extra minutes so I was able to flesh it out a bit more. It was went pretty well, I think. But then again, who am I to judge?

We had a really good lesson with our pal Chris this week as well. Our ward mission leader took us all down to Oakland and we went to the visitors center together. It was really good, on the way out Chris was saying what a wonderful experience he had and afterwards one of our other members said that Chris called her and said that he definitely wants to become a member of the Church, it just may take him a while to get all his affairs in order at his other church, since he leads their music and is also a worship leader there. It's exciting, though.

We've found a few people through tracting this week. Nothing super super solid but theres hope on the horizon.

And that's a wrap. Not as"This mission turns us all into thugs" many crazy stories to tell from here as when I was in Oakland, I'm afraid. It's just a nice, chill, suburban area.

Anyway, that's all for now.

Over and out.

P.S. I discovered a different translation of the Bible this week. It's pretty funny. To show you what I mean by different, here's an excerpt from James 1:5

If one a you guys donno wat fo do, aks God fo help, fo give you da smarts you need! He no goin give you guys hard time. He goin help you guys. God give plenny to everybody, you know.

P.P.S. And another from the book of Revelation, also known as "Wat Jesus Show John"

An I wen hear one loud voice coming from da throne dat say, “Now God make house wit da peopo. An he goin live wit dem. Dey goin be his peopo, An God goin stay dea wit dem fo real, An be dea God.  God goin wipe away all da tears from dea eye. Nobody goin mahke no moa. Nobody goin stay sore inside, O cry, o suffa, Cuz da way tings wen happen befo, All dat goin pau."

P.P.P.S. It's interesting, the things you get a kick out of when you're on your mission.
