"We got another referral... his name is Danny King"
Quote of the week explanation
The mission acquired some new missionaries this week. Because of all of the insanity happening in China because of the beloved Coronavirus, all of the missionaries were pulled out of Hong Kong a few weeks ago. After going home for two weeks to quarantine themselves (just to be sure they aren't sick) they all came back, but were reassigned to different missions. So... we got the Elders that we had before back in the mission. The Oakland Chinese Elders gave us a call to ask about something, and then I heard a familiar voice come on the line and jokingly say that they had gotten a referral named Danny King. (For those of you who don't know, Danny King was this guy who we contacted on the street in Oakland. We gave him a Book of Mormon and he gave us his phone number, but when we called some lady answered the phone and told us that they couldn't talk because they were snorting cocaine). So, yeah. The Hong Kongers are back. We'll see if that throws in any curveballs when transfers come next month.
Oh man, this week.
This week.
We had a lot of seemingly solid appointments fall through. When we'd go by nobody would answer the door, when we'd call nobody would answer, when we'd text, no response... It was a bit disappointing at times, especially when someone who had seemed very interested during our initial contact completely fell through and told us that they weren't actually interested after all. Oof.
On a bit of a brighter note, we had a few lessons that didn't fall through as well, and those were all good.
Also, a person who some of the Elders was teaching was baptized, and I did the interview for them. It was pretty... nerve racking, for the first time doing one.
What else...
We met a guy named Igor, so that was cool.
We got bashed by a guy who didn't really know what he was talking about. He would say some comment about how the Bible disproves the Book of Mormon or whatever and when I asked for a specific example he was like "uh... uh..." before pulling out his phone to some anti website and reciting a scripture that had nothing to do with the point he had just tried to make.
I don't know what else. This week just flew by. We spent time finding and stuff like that, really.
Anyway, I suppose I'll close off there. It's been fun.
Bye
-Ben
P.S. Per request, I will now mention something about sports: Dominique Wilkins
P.P.S. "Oh, bless his heart he's got to be the sickest man in America right now!"
P.P.P.S. Some wisdom that we can all take into our lives is that to be a forward pass, it has to go forward.
