“I'm gonna go to Safeway and ask for beer money“
Quote of the week explanation
Until this week, I hadn't talked to a really crazy person since Oakland. I suppose during that time I mostly assumed that this city was to quaint to hold any such individuals. Oh boy, I was mistaken. Elder June and I were tracking, and one door we knocked on by a man who cordially introduced himself as 'Pedro'. Elder June did his thing, and mentioned the name Jesus Christ at some point in his approach (because, you know, he's a rather important guy). To that comment, Pedro responded: "who's Jesus Christ?" Thinking he was messing with us we shared a little bit with him at the door before he invited us in. Sensing that there was something a little off about this guy, but we cautiously accepted the invitation. We stepped in and asked what his religious background was, and he told us he grew up Roman Catholic. So again, I asked him if he believed in Jesus Christ. "Who's Jesus Christ?" Came the response. I then asked him what I thought to be a relatively simple question about what his belief on God was... And he went OFF. He told us that he himself is a time traveler, and that through his travels has become part of a secret organization dedicated to overrunning the world with plants, and that because of that he has learned that God is a werewolf. He also said some other stuff with some language that I will spare you from. We quickly excused ourselves, and he followed us out the door saying that he was going to walk to Safeway and beg people for beer money. Not exactly what he needs, I think.
Well, a lot of news this week comes from your friend and mine, ☣️CORONA☣️. Oh boy. Fortunately, we still are allowed to work... For now. We get our two-week food supply tomorrow, and then wait and see if they make us lock ourselves in. With how the work is going it wouldn't surprise me.
This week was full of appointment cancelations and people not answering their doors. Fear is in the air. People are so paranoid about coronavirus that they want even less to do with us than usual, for fear that we are spreaders of the plague.
With that being said, tomorrow is transfers. I am staying here in Concord, and getting an Elder named Elder Lin, who is from Taiwan. I may have some hope in learning Chinese yet.
The main exciting thing (other than a billion people not wanting to answer their doors and canceling appointments and dropping us) was church. Because of our lack of official meetings, we called together a district sacrament meeting. It was a good experience.
Anyway, don't get ill my friends. The world has gone mad, but that doesn't mean we have to.
Bye
-Ben
P.S. We taught a lesson in a Starbucks this week and I felt like I was sinning just walking in.
P.P.S. From how some people say it you'd think that coronavirus had already claimed more lives in California than the black death.
P.P.P.S. Horticulture
